Antioxidants

Antioxidants are molecules or a group of molecules which can neutralise free radicals and therefore have a defence role in membranes or cells.
The main ones are:
- vitamins: E, C, A, beta-carotene
- minerals: selenium, zinc
- complex plant molecules: polyphenols, flavenoids, anthocyanosides, OPC, carotenoids
- enzymes: glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase.
Anti-oxidants all cooperate together within the cell. Vitamin C therefore regenerates vitamin E, glutathione peroxidase cannot act without E and selenium, etc.
